For those that want the technical weight, and have a scale that measures in at least seven decimal points, the exact weight of one troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams. However, if you have a genuine American Silver Eagle coin, for all intents and purposes, it will weigh 31.10 grams.

Weighing your American Silver Eagle coins is one way to know that you have an authentic coin, and that it’s not counterfeit. Since coins have been made, counterfeiters have been attempting to copy them. Given the price of silver, counterfeit coins are on the rise. You always want to make sure you buy from a reputable website or business and be leery of anyone that offers to sell you American Silver Eagle coins at discount prices. Chances are they could be fake.

You can buy an inexpensive 100 gram scale (I purchased mine from Amazon for less than $15 dollars) that will give you piece of mind when buying coins.
